Worth a cheeky punt. Always popular here.

IMO, Tom Pett was probably the most overrated player we've ever had.

I honestly thought he was going to be phenomenal. He came with a reasonable amount of hype, started reasonably, and looked very capable. Then he just... didn't do anything. He just never got good, if anything, he got worse.

Then the way he started behaving towards the end just made me think that he simply thought he was better than he was, which absolutely correlates with his performances. Sarll got a lot of stick, rightly, for playing him central midfield, but I wonder how much of that was actually Pett's idea, because he saw himself either as a no10 or as a Pirlo type player.

I wouldn't touch him with a long broom if he became available. Plenty of far better options out there.

BACK OFF! Walts was so hollywood it was worth the entrance fee alone. Why play it simple when you can ping a 50 yard pass to our wingers instead? I remember when he played for Crawley against us, he pulled off a rabona pass just because he can. Skillz.

He scored every penalty, had pashun and how can anybody forget his last minute goal against Northampton? The scenes!

Don't worry Simon i've got your back.

He's only 30.

Yet he's drifted down to Garforth Town. Lovely little club near Leeds but having seen them play and knowing their ex-manager, they ain't very good.

That would suggest Walton can't be arsed most of the time and just wants to be the big fish and centre of attention. As does his penchant for long 'look at how far I can ping a ball' passes.

Thinking about it Thorpe was never rated by anyone here. He just came to us as a great striker from the then higher Luton and every one was expecting him to be prolific and he did nothing. Liam George was slightly better.

Trying to think of someone who a lot of people rated but I didn't. Nothing springs to mind just yet.

Tony Thorpe for me but maybe before your time?

Pett was highly rated but as a prospect not a finished product. He showed that potential in his first season but then plateaued. Then he wasn't rated much.

I realise you're not saying he's our worst player just our most overrated. Not sure I'd call it that but maybe most disappointing as we all had higher hopes.

For me he turned out as a reasonable league 2 player that I would have in my squad.

Yeah, that's absolutely fair.

I remember the name (Tony Thorpe) but don't remember much about him. Was that early 2000s? I don't really remember a great deal pre-2002ish (when Wezzle came in with the Farnborough lot).
