Peterborough United have agreed a fee with Stevenage for striker Matt Godden, HITC Sport understands.
Godden is one of the most sought-after players outside the Championship following his goalscoring exploits for Stevenage during the last couple of seasons.
The 26-year-old joined Stevenage in the summer of 2016 after scoring 30 goals for National League South club Ebbsfleet in the 2015-16 campaign.
Godden scored 21 goals in his debut season for Stevenage last term and he netted 14 goals this campaign.

MG is the best natural goalscorer we have had since Morison. He desperately missed Shumacher, and to some extent McAnuff this season
If you don't create chances strikers can't score...
I think he is more than good enough for League One. Marriott went to Posh for a small fortune a year ago and Matty is a better player. I hope the fee reflects that.

Revell is a far better natural finisher.

Godden needs two or three chances for every goal. He wastes shedloads of good chances!

Couldn’t disagree more. Revell is decent enough but to old to build a strike force round. Newts is better than godden though IMO

I didn't say we should build a strike force around him, I said he is a better natural finisher than Godden, which he undoubtedly is.

Give them both the exact same chances in the box and Revell would bury more of them than Godden.

Interesting. I've always felt like when Godden goes 1-on-1, I barely pay attention because he rarely misses.

For less clean-cut chances, you may well be correct, though.

If you have a player who is potentially as prolific as MG can be, then the manager's personal style shouldn't come into it. You play the way that gets the best out of MG, IMO.

But I get what you're saying. Just seems the wrong way round to me.

Bar that unstoppable ten game spell last season he wastes a good few one on ones and loads of good chances.

The number of great opportunities he blazed over the bar where it was easier to hit the target in just the final few games of this season alone was huge.

A good striker and finisher but does have a good number of weaknesses too. A good player to have but definitely worth selling if offered decent money. We should have cashed in last summer, as I said at the time.

I agree that we should have cashed in last summer, but did we actually have money on the table?

Much like Wilmot, have we actually been receiving offers, or is it just the club trying to whip up PR/interest by saying we've had offers? I suspect it's likely the latter.

If anyone was genuinely interested in either, they'd have gone by now.

IF we had a substantial offer last summer I'm sure we would have sold. I imagine we didn't. Someone probably offered £100k and we thought that was not worth it.

IF we sell this summer we will probably get the a similar amount (marginally less) even though the internet said he could have gone for £1.5m last year.

All the best to him if he goes. If he stays then great too.

He had a real purple patch in 2016-17 and that has led to some getting on his back at little because he wasn't quite as prolific this season. He still scored 14 goals though, that with off the pitch and injury troubles too by all accounts.

If we didn't have Newton (and Revell to a lesser extent), I don't think some fans would be quite so blasé about him potentially going.

If we get a good fee and a good sell on clause of course we can cover for him but there's part of me that wants to see what we can do next season with Matty, Danny and Alex to choose between, that's potentially a potent strike force.

Don't get some of the hate.

Undoubtedly had a poor season given our expectations after his first excellent season and been offside more times than he has had a shot on target, but he has also been injured a bit and has had some family trauma. He's also had to adapt to Newton coming in alongside him, then Revell, and had a shit defence hoofing it aimlessly, and a constantly changing midfield behind him.

I am not fussed if he moves on, he's wound me up as much as he has a lot of others, but I wouldn't say 'Good Riddance'. Even tho' he didn't bother clapping the fans at Wycombe which annoyed me more than it should.

If he goes I wish him well and hope he can return to fitness & form, thus generating a sell-on bonus for us in addition to what should be a decent fee enabling us to secure some decent players.

Edit: if he's goes to Posh and plays for that odious fat crook however he can FRO

He doesn't want to sign an extended contract. Fair enough. Doesn't mean he plays shit on purpose.

In fact you'd think the opposite. If he wants to play at a higher level then he'd be doing everything he can to attract offers and impress.

Felt like he was played out of position, or at least in a different role, when Newton arrived. It took a while to get to grips with that. Then he had a bit of a lay off.

I'd like to see him stay unless there is good money. A good offer for any player should be considered.
