Pleased with this.

At the very least we should have a fit squad with some desire to fight for and win matches. I really do think our lack of fitness has been very apparent and has cost us a lot.

Hopefully we also get line-ups and tactics that alter based on our opposition (be it their strengths or weaknesses, ideally both) in order to win games, and some fresh and innovative ideas and changes during games in order to turn them around rather than the same tired lineups and subs every week.

Some more victories (even just by throwing away fewer games) and more attacking and entertaining football as well would be just grand.

Importantly I find myself excited to attend a match again for the first time in a long time. This is exactly what we needed and at the time we needed it.

I really hope this works out, for us all. A united fanbase creating a rocking ground with the new stand would be delightful.

We used the have a fitness man, the bald guy, then my old schoolmate Nick was here for a short while. Do we have one now? Have we had one for a while?

We are certainly less fit than the Westley sides we had but don't know in comparison to other teams. The number of late goals conceded suggests we may not be as.

Bald chap (Neil was it?) went to FGR.

As well as the number of late goals conceded, half our players looking utterly gassed after 60 minutes every match shows how unfit we are. We never have a sustained period of pressure at the end of games, even if chasing them.

The lack of fitness definitely hinders us, or has hindered us. When you know you're probably less fit than the opposition you naturally play in a more introverted way and you lose concentration when you start to huff and puff, with a bit more fitness we might see some more expansive play and hopefully an end to the late goals.

Will also be interesting to see if any of the long term injured magically return now Sarll has gone too...

Me too. Kicking myself that I can't make Saturday but can't wait for the Barnet match.

I found this article last night from when Dino took over at Nuneaton. It makes interesting reading and feels me with confidence because he isn't trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. He tells it how it is and knows what is needed. Hindsight tells us he wasn't just talking the talk, he actually walked the walk!

Bring it on!

I will reverse judgement till the end of the season, it is a big step up from being a number one in the lower national leagues to being a manager in league football

He has 9 games to prove himself and get established for the next season

I wish him well, but a lot of people were saying the same thing when Saryll first arrived

I won’t be advocating that we sack him. There’s a difference.

Its a positive appointment. One most of us wanted and are happy with.

Its fuelled the fire in pur bellies that was slowly going out under Teddy then latterly under Sarll.

But let's not pretend its not a big gamble given his lack of time in the hot seat at a FL club.

Darren had passion, a strong local connection and a strong work ethic, hopefully Dino brings more than that because he'll need it.

Let's get right behind him, but maybe not put him on a pedestal and expect too much just yet.

Strap yourselves in, it'll be fun but it could be bumpy before we start the climb.

From Nuneatons site, so thats why GR went as well:

Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said: “Obviously Dino is well known to us having worked here as a number two for several years.

“He applied for the job two years ago but I didn’t think he was ready and I had Glenn Roeder supporting Darren.
“Now I think he is – he’s had good experiences since I last met him and I’ve always loved his passion for the club, our fans and winning football matches.

According to the Nuneaton headline, he’s leaving to manage League One Stevenage! His influence is clearly being felt already!!

The right choice IMO, look forward to see what happens between now and the end of the season but obviously he will need a bit of time to implement his way on the team. Lets see some unity amongst the players and the fans once more UTB

Poss Ash may not follow ?
He was player/coach there and may hope to take over manager role.
Also think he is local to there and now also runs some sort of fitness business ( Think he held one at Shephalbury) so this might also sway his mind.

I'm happy with this. A promising young manager, a strong link to the best period of our history and a genuine regard for the club.

Good luck Dino.

Is it possible his ‘brand’ of football could be even more negative than GW?

Who knows, but if we get called big, strong and physical and labelled anti football by fans of teams we've just beaten, it'll be a start.
