2017 - taking a step back

By Puds (Chuds)30/12/2017 17:24Sat Dec 30 17:24:32 2017

Now we've played our final game of the year, here's how it ended.

P48 W19 D10 L19 GF 67 GA 76 Pts 67.

That reflects very much how we've been. Incredibly inconsistent.

We've only ever won more games in a FL calendar year once in our history and won more points twice, with 2017 being our best return for five years.

Well that is obviously the view I have held since the moment we beat Kiddy on that fateful day. I have always believed that we are on loan to the football league. I then get people call me unambiitious which is odd considering I dreamed of a Stevenage team on the football league when we played at King georges. We have come a long way in a short time, we should never forget it or fail to be grateful for it

I don't know why you're so against the idea that our home record is ok. That's not picking out selective stats, no one is trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Our home record for the entire season is won 5 drawn 5 lost 2. That's not bad. It's not great. But it does show we are harder to beat at home than away. Which is all people are saying.

Countering it with selective stats doesn't really win the argument. Although I guess you're trying to argue recent home form isn't good. The widely accepted time frame for that is 6 games. Again not too bad but not great.

https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:league-two/form/matches:6/type:home/

Do you object to the idea we are 17th too because actually in the last 5 we are 22nd?

But getting points in 4 out of 5 game is better than our away form. Which just highlights how shit our away for is really.

This thread was about 2017, so who's using selective stats? Pot, kettle?

Anyway, yes on paper this season our overall home record doesn't look bad, but form has been poor recently aside from one result. We're both right, 2 sides of the same stats.

Happy new year. Try not to explode.

You can't counter an argument about home record by saying our overall form is shit. The away games have no relevance to the home record.

Don’t forget our fantastic goalless draw against Wycombe, who are almost as good as Man City.

But Joe Martin over hit every single fucking one.

Exactly, we're performing better than we should for a club our size and budget.

DS will be alright after the transfer window, the under performing players will be consigned to the bench or loaned out and fresh blood brought in by Mr Hunter who will keep is up and see us finish mid table.

Is all I have now, trying not to be negative.

But a win Monday at home and it all changes again. We're doing well at home, got Reading at home, win that and get a plumb draw, who knows where that takes us.

You say ‘win that’ about Reading as if it were a likely, even foregone, conclusion. I’m not sure I’m seeing the same outcome.

Why?

We haven't lost at home for over two months and they haven't won for five games, couldn't win away to a terrible Barnsley side today, and have only won twice in their last ten, both against guff sides.

We won on the 17/10 and we won on the 23/12 - I don't think we should be factoring in home from September really mate - we are not the same team mentally at the moment

Well I’ll happily stand corrected if I turn out to be wrong, but my prediction is not for us winning. Just a hunch.

Agreed, we’ll lose Monday, confidence will be shot, dumped out of cup on Saturday, new manager and we’ll scrape survival.

Magic of the FA Cup, one off game, we're at home. Most didn't think we'd beat Swindon.

Not saying we will but if we do....

There’s a simple solution to all this ....

When we play put a tenner on us to lose 😬 they always win when I back against Boro ...

If this theory works we will be champions by Easter!!!!
