The squad was always coming to a bit of a step-change given the age through the team, particularly across our front three. We've also played to press from the front and it was clear we would not sustain that over 60 minutes let alone 90.
Last night was my first game of the season I was able to get to but I was encouraged by the energy, particularly from Magennis. To have strength and some degree of pace up top really discourages team to send everything forwards.
Luton were always going to dominate possession - they're clearly a strong ball-playing team - but we were able to keep pressing until Mellon came on, and I'm not sure if that was a tactical decision at that point of the game.
We do have limited resources but I think this window has shown the club knows what it needs to do to maintain our performance. Our we living outside of our means? Time will tell, but Rev's will always adopt a pragmatic approach to games.
Last season was clearly a setup for this season. We weren't ready to overhaul our attack because we had a bloated squad of injuries + fringe players. A lot of that has gone and has coincided with a lot of new blood up top which looks to be paying off.
