I would argue that non competitive running, like jogging, fun runs and the original park run are not sports, they are fitness & exercise activities.

Park run now where times are recorded and published (and medals awarded?) are competitive for those that choose to adopt that approach, so they become a sport.

And no athlete works their arse off at a national level then goes to the Olympics "to take part". They might know they probanly ain't medalling but they want to compete.

Even when I played 5 a side (badly) or golf, I enjoyed the taking part but I wanted to win. And was usually disappointed.
