The main thing holding us back is attendances, as we've known for a while. If we could get them up consistently we'd be laughing, because the rest of the club is a well-run commercial operation, but if we did get up to the Championship we'd be competing with clubs that were several times larger than us, so would essentially be fighting the tide the entire time to grow into a Championship club. Every player we could sign could be offered much more money - and the chance to play in front of more fans - than we could offer.

I don't doubt that PW could make the numbers work if we did go up, but the truth is that we're too small to be a viable second-tier side at the moment. As bleak as it sounds, where we finished last season is probably our current peak, and we should be aiming for that next season too.

I do worry that last season will have made some fans think we should now be a playoff team every season, which ultimately will be almost impossible to achieve consistently. I'd be happy with mid table, and a lot more goals [or chances at the very least]
