The main comment I remember all the time was that he always left his man in acres of space, but that was clearly where a RB is meant to be or was asked to be and not leave a 20 yard gap between him and centre back for anyone to run through. You then move out to the winger if they receive the ball, which they more than likely would because you've left them in space. But it's better to leave a player in space out on the wing than leave a huge space through the middle of your defence. You can't be in both places. People couldn't accept that though.
