LNER Timetable Changes

There was a thread about this when first announced but I got an email from them today so thought i would copy and paste it here, in case of interest.


"We are getting in touch as you have travelled with LNER to or from Stevenage in the last 12 months. LNER is launching a new timetable on Sunday 14 December and we want to let you know how this could make a difference to your future journeys.

December will see the biggest change to the LNER timetable in more than a decade. Changes for Stevenage include hourly services from Stevenage to Newcastle and Leeds, plus more direct trains to York, Northallerton, Darlington and Durham.

We are also implementing changes to the LNER services between Stevenage and London King’s Cross

From December 2025 until at least December 2026:

•Northbound LNER trains at Stevenage will be pick-up only (you can board but not get off).

•Southbound LNER trains at Stevenage will be set-down only (you can get off but not board).

There will still be plenty of trains between Stevenage and central London, with more than 110 weekday trains each way via King’s Cross and St Pancras.

Great Northern trains still run direct to London King’s Cross.

Thameslink trains run fast services to London St Pancras International.

Why are LNER making this change?

This change is being made to help improve overall punctuality – trains at Stevenage often take longer than planned when in the station, which can cause delays across the route.

Running pick-up/set-down only saves time and enables the rail industry to keep services moving smoothly at this very busy point on the East Coast route.

This arrangement is already in place at other busy points on the rail network, where there are many long-distance and commuter trains in operation on the same part of the route.

Over the next 12 months, we will continue to review the impact of this change on punctuality and welcome your feedback. We also plan to work closely with Great Northern and Thameslink to monitor capacity and if it has an impact on crowding."
