As the resident rail enthusiast and former employee of good old BR at Kings Cross, this is nothing new. Periodically over the last 40 years various incarnations of East Coast services have had pickup/setdown only services. Often there were periods where announcements would be made at Stevenage that passengers were not to board the train as the southbound service was ‘setdown only’. The thing is that many people, including me, ignored this with impunity. What could they do? Catch you on the train and fine you? (Or as was actually the rule, charge you from whatever the last stop was). Never witnessed it happening. I suspect that this again will be the case. They’ll be all over it for a few months, then find that the system isn’t working and quietly drop it. And once it’s all GBR once more, they won’t even be able to claim that one cost centre (GN/TL) is taking the money whilst another (LNER) is providing the travel.
