That's an interesting debate in itself.

Is it what a player does during training that should matter (in terms of team selection) or what he does on a match day?

Not saying this is Young, but if you had a bad trainer or someone who doesn't show much in training but delivers whenever he plays then should you be picking him anyway, as it's only Saturday that actually matters.

Or is the bigger picture in terms of fairness and squad ethos and rewarding hard work etc more important. If you set a precedent that you can get picked without performing in training then do standards start dropping as a whole.

I don't know the answer, but I do rate Young from what I've seen on matches (and on YouTube from previous clubs 🤣)
