Absolutely. It’s all a balancing act. We can’t afford players who will play entertaining football and have us at the sharp end of League One. Arguably we couldn’t even do that in League Two. All fans are fickle when push comes to shove but it is much easier to walk away when the football isn’t entertaining and results aren’t coming either. It’s no coincidence the Arsenal fans are all slinking back off to them now, they’re winning again and not playing ugly football either.

The football wasn’t much better under Evans (though we were scoring more, particularly in League Two). I think he had the benefit of pulling us out of the doldrums and taking us to a level we hadn’t scaled for a long while. That enticed people in. He’s a volatile character though and I feel as if we’d be in a much worse position had he stayed on than we are now under Revs. What Revs has to contend with is trying to sustain the level and do so without rocking the boat, the signings are sensible ones rather than sexy ones, there’s a lot of “old faces,” the football is necessarily pragmatic. Those things don’t appeal to the floating fan for sure.
