I’d brand Freestone as ‘immense’ today. He stood out for me. Or did he? Because as I say that, I also immediately feel that Luther rose to the role of captain and was even better than usual. The way he put his body on the line repeatedly, and his towering presence and instruction, right from the pre-match huddle, was noticeable and a joy to witness. But then who in defence was poor? None. Who in the Mid was poor? None. Who up front? Well, you see what I’m saying. In a team where I couldn’t really fault anyone, Freestone stood out.
