By 2027 all the trains will be part of GBR, and all the trains since Covid have effectively been publicly owned anyway, with the Government taking all the revenue risk (losses).

This is a natural progression of a publically/centrally run railway and goes back to how things were pre-privatisation. The commuter services are run for commuters and the intercity trains should be for intercity journeys. Rather than people taking all the seats/seat reservations for london-stevenage more space and seats are available to book longer distance journeys, making that offer and availability more attractive and increasing revenue/journeys overall for the whole system.

I don't like it, as I try and aim for them for the journey home generally, but I can see why they're doing it for the better operation for the overal system
