Not sure such a clause would be remotely enforceable, altho' you do see it reported a lot. Gentleman's agreement maybe?

Once he leaves, his new employer is free to seek to purchase the registration of whoever they like surely?

It's only a few trades where you can't poach when you move, like hairdressers being barred from openly taking old clients to a new salon with them.

(Which they all do anyway).
