Saracens (who have a 3G pitch) had a match postponed a month or two ago because the surrounding roads and presumably stands/spectator areas were too icy.

However, their facility is heavily used for community activities. It feels quite spongy, like grass. It seems to be players with preexisting knee injuries who can't cope with it, but clearly doesn't sound as safe on the body as playing on grass.

These pitches are getting better, I don't see why they won't become on a par with grass (player safety-wise) over the next 5-10 years.

It would be a shame to move away from grass, but the benefits at this level would be enormous - cost, less upkeep, opportunities for non football income, etc.
